The
Litton Trail was the first trail project undertaken by Nevada
County Land Trust. In November 1994, the 0.6 mile section
just above the Grass Valley Ditch was started between Hughes
Road and Sierra College Drive. This popular section of trail
is paved and suitable for bicycles and strollers, and can
accommodate various fitness levels.
The 1.1 section of trail through the Sierra College campus
has a crushed rock surface. It continues just above the Grass
Valley Ditch, then turns north and west, looping back to Sierra
College Drive, below the soccer fields. The trail between
the main trail and Sierra College Drive is 0.4 mile long.
In 2003 the 2.1 section of trail from Hughes Road to Via Colina
Drive was completed. This section turns north along the edge
of the Nevada Union High School campus and Eskaton Village,
then east, ending at Via Colina Drive.
Litton Trail provides non-motorized access to two schools,
as well as numerous businesses and offices along Sierra College
Drive. It provides a place for people to escape from the urban
environment without leaving Grass Valley.
Dog Access
Special permission has been granted to dog owners on this
section of trail allowing dogs on the College Campus. Dogs
must be leashed on all sections of the Litton Trail.
Future Plans
Future plans for the trail include extending the trail west
to Devere Mautino Park, and beyond to the Gilmore/Scotten
Schools and Condon Park. To the east, plans are to take the
trail along Ridge Road, and then north to Seven Hills School
in Nevada City. |
